That’s because we don’t wait for our clients to ask this question: we proactively address this issue very early in the process (i.e. long before a prospect becomes a customer). As we’ve said before and will say again: we believe that an educated client is the best client. We don’t hoard information and “hope for the best.” We empower our clients with honest insight, and then trust them to decide if we’re the right Inbound Marketing partner for them.

So, getting back to the pivotal question “how long until I see results from Inbound Marketing?”, the first thing to point out is that there is no standard, definitive answer. This is simply because each business and marketplace is different, and there are many variables to consider.

For example, some businesses face stiffer competition, while others enjoy a larger market share and already have some key brand advantages. Some businesses have relatively short sales cycles, while others have longer cycles. And some businesses target one or two customer groups (i.e. buyer personas), while others may have multiple audiences. All of these variables play a role in both the degree and type of results – since there are different metrics and KPIs – as well as how long it will take each result type to emerge.

Now, with all of this being said, investing in Inbound Marketing is not some kind of vague, nebulous experiment that may or may not generate results. In fact, one of the fundamental things that distinguish Inbound Marketing from traditional marketing (a.k.a. “interrupt marketing”) is precisely that results can be tracked, measured and of course, generated.

In light of this, we can look towards some statistics published by HubSpot (the company that invented the term “Inbound Marketing”), which aggregates results across thousands of businesses in various sectors – which is a more accurate and, frankly, ethical approach than “cherry picking” a specific client or case.

According to HubSpot’s research, within 7 months of launching Inbound Marketing:

  • 85% of businesses increased their website traffic
  • 84% of businesses increases their leads (more on this below)
  • 69% of businesses increases sales

And as for the average lead growth beyond the 7-month threshold, businesses that launched Inbound Marketing:

  • Increased leads by 5.99 after 1 year
  • Increased leads by 24.69 after 2 years

Generally, we advise our clients to expect to see results within the first quarter after launching Inbound Marketing. Again, the degree and extent of these results will vary from business to business, and the amount of investment also plays a role. All of these details are captured in the Inbound Marketing Game Plan that we customize for each client.
