Now users will be able to access their Google+ and Google Local page from the same place, making Google Local and Social more unified. Will Google local search and social media continue to become one? We’ve been wondering for awhile! Google Places for Business is still in its infancy, but we’ll keep you posted on changes and new features in Google’s offerings.

How Social Media such as Google+ is Combining with Search

Marketers need to consider the public social content crawled by Google Bot, the integration of Google+, authorship, and the association between Google+ profiles and associated content in search results. The fact is Google is taking all of the information that they gather from their users on a daily basis, through all of their platforms and using it to make their algorithm better. In today's world it's virtually impossible to have a successful organic search optimization campaign without also having healthy social content or social presence. Social signals have or soon will eclipse signals such as links.

As of late, when you think about simplifying SEO, we cannot simply talk about content, links, and keywords. We must equally include social content and social signals as they are just as important. The reason search and social are becoming one is, because the landscape has completely changed. Think about your key search terms and think about what degree social content competes with you. Every single time you search for something your result could be unique because of your location, or whether you are logged into Google or not, this is a piece of the social landscape.

Other Social Networks

The fact that Google+ is using social content and social signals as part of their algorithm is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to combining search and social. With the new Facebook Graph search just being implemented and having Facebook work with Bing, we have major changes on the horizon. We cannot forget about Twitter and the fact that tweets are being indexed right along with all of the other information put on the Internet. Social media can no longer be ignored in the world of search or SEO.
